Needing some suggestions  Sad

Last night while training, I think I may have reagervated an old injury.  Three days ago I was doing straight bar skull crushers and a day later I noticed some discomfort in the base of the palm of my hand....Then yesterday while training bench, I noticed some pretty substantial pain in the area, and by the last set of "me" it hurt like hell.  It hurts pretty badly when I pull my thumb back.and the pain is only localized in the base of the thumb... Has anybody had this injury, and how did you deal with it?  I already use pretty heavy wrist wraps and may go to some pretty heavy tape when I bench next time.....what a bitch.. I know there is a problem when there is pain benching anything over 315..and when I went to 365 ouch....what a shitty double......Right when I'm getting good gains again I get injured, it figures....

Is it in the thumb itself or the wrist?

I've broken both thumbs, with the right one being broken twice (part of my rough teenage years ;-)  )   The left one has healed fine, but I've got some issues with the right one to this day.

Look at where your grip is on the bench first.   you want the bar across the base of your palm, not across the meaty portion of the base of the thumb (that hurts no matter what).   If you are grabbing the bar wrong, its going to hurt no matter what.   If you search YouTube, Louie Simmons has a blurb on how to grip the bar appropriately.   If you can't find it, let me know, I think I've got it saved on my home computer.

Second approach the discomfort you've got with the standard ice, NSAIDS, etc.  I've had some good luck just stretching my thumbs and movnig them through a normal range of motion too.

I bench with the bar on the heel of my palm and always have.....I think this injury is related to the skull crushers with the straight bar....putting too much pressure on my wrists...This is not joint pain more of tendon type pain......when my index finger or my thumb is pulled back...and hurts like hell when I have the bar on my heels of my palm.....hell it may be wrist who knows, but I do know that their is alot of nerves and tendons that are in this area...and one thing gets inflamed they are all affected...I'll try the IBprohen and the stretching....but the last time this happened it knocked me out from benching for almost 4 months....and eventually healed it'self....

I appreciate the advice JK
